ABOUT LAREDO MAIN STREET
Laredo Main Street is a non-profit organization that works to build community support, interest and economic growth for Laredo’s historic downtown commercial area and surrounding neighborhoods through the Texas Main Street four-part approach emphasizing promotion, organization of people and resources, economic restructuring and design of the downtown area to complement the prevailing architectural style and character of the area.
Laredo Main Street works to protect and enhance the quality of life for the community who live, work and visit Laredo's historically and culturally significant downtown commercial and historical area. Recently Laredo Main Street was recognized at a National Main Street City in Texas by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Laredo Main Street, with the assistance of the Webb County Heritage Foundation, was also instrumental in helping the City of Laredo receive its designation as a Preserve America Community, an appointment given by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use their historic assets for economic development and community revitalization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. The organization strives to facilitate the promotion of downtown businesses through events such as the El Centro de Laredo Farmers Market, Small Business workshops and Conferences, the annual Jamboozie festival and the new arts and artisan market in historic San Agustin Plaza. Laredo Main Street, with help from the City of Laredo, has designated the first Arts and Entertainment District in historic downtown Laredo located within the Historic San Agustin area. This area is primed for tremendous growth and investment opportunities.
