Laredo Main Street was first designated as a Texas Main Street Urban City by the Texas Historical Commission’s Community Heritage Development Division in 2008. This program aids Texas cities to revitalize their historic downtown's. UETA Jamboozie Festival was organized to raise money for Laredo Main Street whose mission is to preserve the downtown heritage by fostering community pride and involvement, stimulating diverse business and residential development using the Texas Main Street Four Point approach; Organization, Promotion, Economic Restructuring and Design. Some activities include the El Centro de Laredo Farmer's Market at Jarvis Plaza every third Saturday of the month except for the month of December, Farmer's Market is held second Saturday of the month, SOL Masquerade Ball, and our newest addition the Streets of Laredo Artisan Bazaar.
LAREDO, TEXAS, November 12, 2015 – The Streets of Historic Downtown Laredo will come alive with musical entertainment as Laredo Main Street Kicks off their 18th annual UETA Jamboozie Festival on Saturday, January 30, 2015 from 5PM to 12AM.
Considered the most exhilarating event of the Washington’s Birthday Celebration, Laredo Main Street’s UETA Jamboozie will not disappoint with this year’s lineup of food, fun and most importantly entertainment. Past President Roque Haynes announced the musical entertainment for this year’s lively street party will include two headliners “Los Texmaniacs and Pete Astudillo”. Grammy Award winners “LOS TEXMANIACS” combine a hefty helping of Tex Mex conjunto, simmer with several parts Texas rock, add a daring dash of well-cured blues, and R&B riffs, and you've cooked up the tasty TexManiacs groove. Pete Astudillo was one of the leaders of the Tejano music scene, a native Laredoan.He began his musical career as a backup vocalist for the queen of Tejano, Selena, with whom he sang two duets.Astudillo also wrote/co-wrote several of Selena's chart-toppersand in 1995 released his tried album “Como te Extraño” with included his Lo Nuestro award-winning song by the very same name. Astudillo has also been nominated for Male Vocalist and Best Single at the Tejano Music Awards. You can’t miss hiswell-written Cumbias, ballads, and his charismatic voice.
Taking on the other five stages throughout the grounds of Downtown District are over 20 different musical acts. Families will also enjoy the high point of the festivities, the Mayor’s March Parade featuring mask drummers, dancers and decorated cars.
